What does this mean about this interview?

I had a job interview recently. The Human Resources called me a few hours later and said Im one of their top Candidates for the position.. I just need a background check..

So what are my chances of getting the job? If I come back clear which( i will) am i hired? I dont understand b/c if there is other candidates how do they choose after a background check is completed?/ thank you I always give best answers!

What does this mean about this interview?
If nothing comes back negative in your background check, I would say you probably have the job. I can't imagine calling back within a few hours to tell you that you are a top candidate for any other reason. Get your negotiating hat on and be prepared to ask for what you want.

Good luck and God Bless!
Reply:You are NOT hired until they offer you the position and you accept. Do the background check, and send them a thank you note if you haven't done so already. A lot of people forget about the finer points of interviewing. Sending a note is one way to make yourself stand out ahead of the pack.
Reply:in my case i found out later that i had the job while they were performing my background search. but maybe in some other situations if 3 top canidates go into a background check 2 come out clear they will most likely choose the canidate with the most experience
Reply:my experience is that being one of the top candidates means you get a 2nd level interview with a higher level person who decides between the top candidates. or that's one possibility.
Reply:it depends some might call you up to go for the 2nd interview or 3rd interview - it doesn't mean that you will get the job if you go 3rd interview :-(
Reply:That means you are going to be chosen as one of the top 2 or 3. Good luck to you.
Reply:you have it in the bag
