Should I wait or follow up about a job I interviewed for 3 times?

To try and make a long story short, I interviewed with this particular company twice, and went in a third time to give a presentation b/c after the second interview I was told it was b/w me and another guy. I sent thank you emails after each time I went in. I felt the presentation went extremely well and after I was done one of the guys in the room said I was in “good position.” The presentation was last Wednesday (12/12). I was told that day that they would make a decision by Friday (12/14).

It’s now Monday afternoon and I haven’t heard anything. Should I wait it out or should I call or email and follow up with HR? If you think I should wait it out, how much longer should I wait before I follow up? I’m nervous as hell b/c I thought I sealed the deal with the presentation but now I don’t know.

Should I wait or follow up about a job I interviewed for 3 times?
You should definitely call. Since it was past the time they told you that they would have a decision, you will be seen as proactive, not bugging them. As for the wait, don't be nervous. You have to just know that it is now out of your hands and if it was meant to be, then it will happen. As a recruiter, I can tell you that I've had to take a few extra days with a top candidate because I need to do all the behind-the-scenes stuff before I can offer the job. This includes references, background check, etc. It may take a few days and maybe they are waiting until everything is done before they call you. You should definitely follow up and then just wait - relax - it will happen in time. Good luck!!
Reply:wait to see if they contact you today and tomorrow, and call them on Wed. most Friday's and Monday's people leave work early/call out sick etc etc
Reply:Give it until tomorrow to call. People get busy. Next time, do not email the thank you letter. Sent it via fdx or usps priority mail; emails are disregarded very easily.

Reply:I would call today.

Yes, Mondays are busy, but the mornings more so than the afternoons. Wait until 3 p.m. and call. Just say that you're interested in discussing how things went, and do they have a moment now. They will tell you if they can't talk at the moment, and they will know that you are still incredibly interested in the position (and are truly a go-getter who doesn't wait for things to come to him).

Good luck!
Reply:Companies rarely follow through with their promises of keeping you informed. Besides interviewing candidates for open positions, they have a business to run. Fridays are bad days for them because everyone wants to run home. Mondays are bad because everyone is recovering from the weekend. Try Tuesday with a phone call or e-mail.

Definitely follow up. But I wouldn't follow up with HR, since they don't ultimately make the decision (basically, HR the powerless lackeys). Instead I'd call the hiring manager (the one you'll be working for) directly. They just might be waiting to see if you do this, since follow up is since a critical part of sales. I'd leave a voice mail and if you don't hear back try them again a few hours later. Leave only one voice mail but keep calling them until they pick up the phone.

Most companies miss deadlines so this isn't necessarily a bad thing. But do follow up.
Reply:Follow up. They said they would make a decision by Friday.
Reply:I don't think it would hurt to shoot a little email to their hr department. They told you Friday and it is now Monday so I would follow up. Good Luck!

What are my chances of getting the job if...?

What are my chances of getting the job if I DON'T wear a suit to my first interview.

Unfortunately, I have a job interview tomorrow and I neglected to get my slacks tailored to fit my increasing waistline.

Now my choices are:

(a) Wear slacks, shirt, %26amp; tie (no jacket)

(b) Wear slacks, shirt, tie and NON-matching jacket.

(c) Reschedule the interview and get the pants tailored?

Is there anything that I can do to down play my professional faux pas?

When and more importantly how should I tell my employer I am pregnant?

When I was hired I was 12 weeks, I did not tell them during my interview b/c it was none of their business. I wanted to wait until after my 90 day probationary period to tell them. I just now reached that point and am aware of the rules for time off which is 2 months before I need to leave. I am showing and its obvious but no one has asked me about it because I sit behind a desk all day. My question really is, What wordage should I use to explain to my boss about my maternity leave.

When and more importantly how should I tell my employer I am pregnant?
im a temp and was suppose to get hired permantely after the 3mnths probation. My boss told me i cant ge hired yet because i wont be able to pass the xray test. so im still a temp and wont be hired until after i have a baby =|

when i told him he was pleased that i had let him know a head of time. he advised me that if i wouldnt have said anything i would have cause problems because i was recently hired and then would have to be put on maternity leave..

point is tell ur boss already. they cant fire u for being pregnant but they can lose trust since u didnt tell them a head of time.
Reply:put in your request for time off, and type of time you are using like sick time, or vacation time. and for the reason, i would put birth of child and the expected due date.

for back up, i would use a doctor's excuse/notice documenting the due date and have him write a notice that you will be taking your 2 weeks off before your due date and approximately 6 to 8 weeks after birth.

apply for state disability as well to cover your time off.

President cheney?

In w's interview on c-span tonight, he made mention of President cheney, is the truth out now?

Who knows, maybe that's the context Dubya was using (though I doubt it).

Reply:I doubt it. Cheney doesn't seem to have any drive to run. He's been in politics a very long time and so has his wife. Health-wise, he probably wouldn't be so inclined. I think it was just another one of W's harmless guffaws.

Bush,s tax cut?

Paul Krugman, in a May 27 article in the New York Times titled "Stating the Obvious", wrote that "the gimmicks used to make an $800-billion-plus tax cut carry an official price tag of only $320 billion are a joke, yet the cost without the gimmicks is so large that the nation can't possibly afford it while keeping its other promises; ... The people now running America aren't conservatives: they're radicals who want to do away with the social and economic system we have, and the fiscal crisis they are concocting may give them the excuse they need."

Two days later, Peronet Despeignes, reporting in the Financial Times of London, wrote that "The Bush administration has shelved a report commissioned by the Treasury that shows the US currently faces a future of chronic federal budget deficits totaling at least $44,200 trillion [the deficit is currently at about six trillion dollars] in current US dollars."

That's trillion with a "T". To put that terrifying figure in perspective, Despeignes reported it to be the rough equivalent of four years of US economic output or 94% of all US household assets, and that "closing the gap would require the equivalent of an immediate and permanent 66 per cent across-the-board income tax increase."

The next day, on his Public Television show "Now", Bill Moyers was blunt. The Bush Administration, he said, kept news of this impending debt from the public "lest it throw the fear of God into Congress and the financial markets and cost them the tax cut for the rich." Moyers went on to say that "we are watching the country's future slip deeper and deeper into a black hole of red ink."

And two days after that, Noam Chomsky, in an interview on C-Span televised on June 1, stated flatly that the tax cut was calculated to lead to a "fiscal train wreck".

"At some point", Krugman wrote, "Bond markets will balk - they won't lend money to a government, even that of the United States, if that government's debt is growing faster than its revenues, and there is no plausible story about how the budget will eventually come under control."

But that's the very point of massive tax cuts: breaking the bank so as to kill social programs. It was a point made very well by Press Secretary Ari Fleisher when pressed on the issue. Congress, Fleisher said, would have to reform programs accordingly. He didn't say "kill", which would have been more appropriate.

Corporate America has spent billions lobbying for deregulation of its activities and for privatization of everything from the health system to education to national parks and forests to Social Security -- a situation that would lead to ownership and control by the corporate sector and a tiny handful of the super rich of virtually every aspect of society.

With no cash in the federal till -- due to massive tax cuts along with huge deficits, and ultimate inability of the government to borrow further -- there would no longer be much to argue about. The corporate sector would win by default, so that everything needed by the masses would have to be obtained through them at any price they would want to charge.

As the deficit balloons, the rightist program to privatize public lands is also moving right along. Free marketeer Terry Anderson, whose published plan to give each citizen "shares" of the public domain, said shares being sellable on the open market to those with the wealth to scoop them up, has been made President Bush's adviser on public lands issues.

Late last year, fellow free marketeer and Interior Secretary, Gale Norton, a product of the anti-environmental "Wise Use Movement", revealed plans to "outsource" to the private sector 3,500 jobs in the U.S. Park Service. This raised no eyebrows, and by January, 2003 the estimate had risen to more than 11,000 positions - an eyebrow-raising 72%. Soon thereafter President Bush revealed that as many as 850,000 positions, now federal, could become privatized. It was a declaration of war on public ownership and government by the people, framed as an argument for fiscal efficiency.

With country and culture in the hands of a very few, democracy perishes.

Bush,s tax cut?
Boy the nay Sayer's came out in force on this one.. how silly you were to quote that Liberal Ideologue.. If I don't like Wall mart I'll shop at target ???? it's amazing how some people just miss the point all together and then others more focused.. dispel and boo.. but then point to their own ideology. Sorry boys but Tax cuts for the ultra rich isn't working.

1% controls 35% of the wealth in this country.. the bottom 50% controls about 3%.

Less than 1% of stocks and other market share items are traded by that same 50% on the bottom.. 40% of houses sold in 2004 were second homes.. where are the tax cuts "working" ? .. the thing is when you offer facts they offer lip service about liberal tin hats and all sorts of other distracting babble but the reality sits squarely on the shoulders of the poor in this country and more and more so on the world.. Very Rich and very Poor is the inevitable climax to all of this.. but will our Country still be here when it's done is something that very few people are dealing with seriously.. only time will tell. The sad truth is that there seems to be very little that we can do .. the patriot act 1%26amp;2 makes anyone not eating McDonalds and watching Fox an enemy combatant ..

where do we go from here ?
Reply:It's usually referred to as the "Starve the beast" theory - cut taxes so much that the government dies off. Grover Norquist (one of Bush's buddies and a rabid tax-hater if there ever was one) put it this way: "I don't want to starve the government. I want to make it small enough that I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub."
Reply:tough as hell,

So what is your view? Posting someone else's rant from 3 years ago does little to prove anything.

Our economy is on the upswing, as many analysts cite indicators that it is rising as fast as it was 10 years ago. The difference is that Bush Sr. didn't get the chance to be in office long enough to reap the credit that went to Clinton.

Corporate scandals, high oil prices, natural disasters, and the war in Iraq hasn't been enough to shake our economy for long. It shows how important many of Bush's tax policies have been to help make it more resistant to recessive behavior. This article was written in 2003, and clearly did not predict the outcome of such policies well. The only deficits you are seeing today is mainly a result of the natural disasters and war in Iraq that we continue to recover from.

Paul Krugman is a respectable economist that has let his political views dominate his discussion. He has leaned away from objectivity in favor of a liberal focus. This means that although some of his arguments are valid, he chooses to ignore the problems and misdeeds of those who have the same political affiliation. The lop-sided view cannot possibly help solve a crisis when you refuse to admit all sources of the cause.

Here's an excerpt of an article from www.economist.com:

http://www.economist.com/opinion/display...

"He refers to these critics as his “stalkers”. Many of them spend an inordinate amount of time quibbling about minor semantic points, or trivial differences in statistics. But they cannot all be easily dismissed. The more reasonable ones allow that he is a gifted writer and economist, but also argue that these days his relentless partisanship is getting in the way of his argument. Is the American political and economic picture, they ask, really as one-sided as he paints it? And if not, should an economist of Mr Krugman's prominence be telling the public that it is?

A glance through his past columns reveals a growing tendency to attribute all the world's ills to George Bush. Regarding California's energy crisis, for example, he berated the Bush administration and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for not imposing price caps sooner—but found no room to mention Bill Clinton, who presided over a similarly inactive FERC for the first part of the crisis, nor to attack California's then Democratic governor Gray Davis for his disastrous refusal to allow consumer prices to rise. After Mahathir Mohamad, the prime minister of Malaysia, recently gave an anti-Semitic speech, Mr Krugman argued that the Bush administration's ham-fisted foreign policy had forced Dr Mahathir to make the remarks in order to shore up domestic political support—most unlikely, given that he was about to step down.

Even his economics is sometimes stretched. A recent piece accused conservatives of embracing the “lump of labour fallacy”, the mistaken claim that there is a fixed quantity of work which governments must strive to allocate equitably. In fact, the paper he cited did not commit the lump of labour fallacy. He used game theory to argue that, by criticising North Korea but not attacking it, and then going after Iraq instead, Mr Bush is “probably” encouraging North Korea to become a more dangerous nuclear power. This probably did not convince most game theorists. Overall, the effect is to give lay readers the illusion that Mr Krugman's perfectly respectable personal political beliefs can somehow be derived empirically from economic theory."
Reply:His tax cuts are for the rich, not the people who support America, the middle class ! Soon it will be just rich and poor.
Reply:As long as it profits big business, Bush is all for it. I've seen reports that 9/11 was responsible for less than 1/3 of the initial deficit, if it weren't for Bush's tax plan, the recession would have passed very quickly.

Bush has always been act first, think later.
Reply:Krugman and Chomsky and Moyers are ultra-left idiots. They have put ideology before truth so many times, why would any sane person accept anything they say?

Tax cuts stimulate the economy. This has been proven over and over in history, with economic gains following cuts in high tax rates. No nation has ever taxed (or spent) its way to prosperity - they eventually run out of other peoples' money.

As for a projected deficit of $44,200 trillion - that's rubbish. The governmental outlays are not even $2.5 trillion annually, and the budget deficit is now less than $500 billion. So where did that dumbass number come from, and why would any sentient being find it credible in the least?

And the deficits are shrinking because of increased, yes INCREASED tax revenues (which also happens each time high tax rates are reduced, after the period it takes for the $$ to stimulate the economy).

As for 'killing' social programs - the truth is that Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, etc are all unconstitutional spending by the government. And this unconstitutional spending by the government accounts for one-half to two-thirds of all federal spending. It should be killed!

As for corporations, they do NOT want deregulation. They can make more profit when they do NOT have to compete, because they have been able to buy congressmen (especially Democrat congressmen) into preventing competition for them. Remember how the US airlines were fat and happy prior to deregulation? Because they owned the air routes (thanks to congress) and could charge what they wanted. So this point is complete liberal hogwash!

As for corporations providing everything people need - they already do that. Government never did that - except by virtue of the goods and money they steal from taxpayers to so 'compassionately' give to people who didn't earn it.

As for privatizing government funcitons, that's a good thing. It prevents the public sector unions from controlling our government, and lets it be controlled by the people WE ELECTED.

Where did you pull this absurd and incoherent rant from?
Reply:LOL. "With country and culture in the hands of a very few, democracy perishes". It's funny that you don't see the irony in that statement. Conservatives want the power in the hands of the private sector (where we have freedom and choice) and you want power in the hands of an all powerfull federal government (where we have no freedom and no choices). If Wal-Mart screws me, I can shop at Target, K-Mart, Sears, etc. When the federal government screws me, I can shop at .......

I know you mean well, but do you really want all the power in the hands of the ultimate monopoly (the federal government)? Or would you rather have power in coroporate hands, where you can freely choose between several competitors? There is no democracy without choice. Freedom or slavery, the choice is ours.

Usually at interview, as far as I know, they don't ask any advance question. Rather they asks simple conceptual question on the language.

Because you can always learn about advance features but if you have conceptual problem, you are sure to create various problems.

I haven't had a panic attack in 2 months. I go to thearpy every week. I have a interview for a college job working as a receptionist this week. I don't think I can handle that position like I thought. I'm so nervous and I don't think I can walk into the interview b/c of nerves. Any advice?

I think you should go anyways. You're not going to melt or implode or anything. Yes you may be nervous.....but once you get THROUGH the interview....you'll be stronger...because you made it through!!!

Reply:Dip your toe in the water, first, before taking the plunge. Volunteer, first from home, then at someplace like the Salvation Army, sorting clothes, etc., or Meals on Wheels, for a few days, 1 - 2 hrs at first, then more, which will enable you to get back into the work habit. Call now, or tomorrow, to organise. Go in to the college office tomorrow, or the day after, and familiarise yourself with the layout, and ask a few questions of the current receptionist. Try to find out which office the interview will be held in, and, if possible, meet the interviewer. On the day, consider taking something to help relax you, but if driving, know the effects beforehand! Sections 47, 38, 2, 8, and 6, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris refer. Start ASAP.

I can only imagine how unerved you feel, however i would imagine you acquired this interview on merit, so obviously you deserve your chance to shine as so to speak.

Furthermore just imagine for a breif moment how you may feel if you do not just try.

As students go about their daily routine they will hardly have time to focus on what your doing, unless they come to you in a professional capacity, and when you acquire the skills to do your job efficiently you will be amzed at how seemless each day at work becomes.

Finally try to remember that many of the people you come into contact with will be quite nervous and unsure to, and i find it's always a good idea to offer support to others, as this will be a good way of building your confidence also.

ps when you do go for your interview if your hands are prone to shaking, then sit on them palms up.

I really hope it pans out for you

Take care and good luck.

Walk into this interview and sell yourself as the best!! They want to see your smile, so let them see it. The thing about picturing your interviewer naked sounds lame but works. If I orally accepted a contingent job offer, can I later decline?

i've just completed a professional designation and been in the market for a new job. company A just offered me a position contingent on references and background checks. they asked me to respond same day so they wouldn't miss out on other candiates. i have interviews with another (company B) the next day, but it wasn't going to happen soon enough so i gave a go-ahead with the offer n consent to the checks. but later the recruiter for company B said it's ok for me to continue my interviews b/c i didn't sign anything and their offer is not final. the potential position with B is only marginally better but it's very close to my home (around the corner). i guess i'm going to the interviews (company B seems very interested after the first round of interview), but still don't feel comfortable. yes i haven't signed anything and the offer is contingent, but it certainly doesn't look good if i bail out(esp in a professional community)- i did say yes on the phone...pls help me think it out!

If I orally accepted a contingent job offer, can I later decline?
This is a tricky one. As you said, there's a professional community here and depending on how big it is in your community, by backing out on your agreement with the first company you're establishing a bit of a reputation for yourself that you may wish later wasn't following you around. Did you agree on salary? Benefits? Other terms with the first company? If you didn't have those key specifics nailed down, and you wind up being offered a position by company B, you could fairly tell Company A you're sorry, you were under the impression the salary would be closer to "x" and you really can't work for "y" which they're offering (for example). But don't make that statement over something really flimsy, like you wanted a parking spot right next to the building and you found out you'd have to park across the street.

Also, keep in mind Recruiter B is working for Company B so that person has a vested interest in getting you to go for the company that will ultimately benefit them (either with a fee or credit for a placement). No harm in going for interviews with company B, if you've committed to them.

If you know a professional in this line of work, maybe a professor from your college or someone who has mentored you in the past, check with him/her on what is considered proper protocol in your profession.

i consulted a friend who's in the recruiting business. he said it's ok to go with others as long as you don't sign the final offer. apparently it happens all the time: candidates say yes first but walk away from the final offer. Report It

Reply:only potential damage is to the recruiter representing that candidate because may lose future business. anyway it's within the normal business of the recruiter and employers so pretty much expected if happens. A goodwill gesture is to offer to pay for the background check fees $150 for the employer Report It

Reply:as for myself, company B is very slow although they're very interested (decision makers are all out of town) so i won't be able to wait for them to deliver, which makes it easy for me

finally thanks to all and happy new year! Report It

My boss wont look at me.?

So I have been at my job for about 2 yrs now and from day one (even durring the interview) my boss will now look at my when he talks to me. I kinda thought about it durring the interview b/c i hate talking to people who arent looking at me i feel like they arent listening. I am an HR major so i know all the interview ins and outs. He looks at everyone else. whats the deal? And dont say its b/c i am ugly ...b/c i am not. Anyone have any real reasons why this might be or had same experience?

My boss wont look at me.?
It could be not because you are ugly, but you are attractive. A lot of men are intimidated by beautiful women. He may not want to succumb to your girlish charms. He wants to maintain professionalism and does not want to get caught checking you out. A lot of male bosses have gotten in trouble with sexual harassment, and that could be another issue.
Reply:if u r not ugly, it may be intimidation
Reply:it is a human nature. girls may not look more at men because they have their preferences but most of the men do look at girls. God had given them so cute body to look and admire it. u said u r working there for almost two years. is such time if he has not done anything bad or the attitude yu hate, it means he has no bad intensions. so ignore it and let him. but if yu have some inclination towards him ask him for a cup of coffee and process can go on-------
Reply:How you know your boss really looks at everyone else? Unless you’ve had the chance to possess everyone else’s body for an entire day to know what your boss does, you’re not really going to know how he behaves around others.

What is the most reliable way to get the opinions of experts on any writing topic?

A. Do research at a library.

B. Call them to set up interviews.

C. Write to them and hope for an answer.

D. Contact them on the Internet.

What is the most reliable way to get the opinions of experts on any writing topic?
The easiest way is A. If you are looking at peer-reviewed journal articles then they are very reliable, in fact most college professor prefer peer-reviewed journal articles.

However both B and D are fantastic primary source ideas.

Sometimes you will get a better response if you call, sometimes if you email. You can do an interview in person, over phone, or through email.

It depends on what you are writing for. If you are writing for a magazine or newspaper the answer is C. If you are writing for a college paper it could be A, B, or D. With A being the most likely.
Reply:I'd go with both A %26amp; B as my first 2 choices. I wouldn't rely on only one type of source, you will get more comprehensive information by using multiple sources.

I am so worried about job interviews...can anyone help?

I'm a 24 years old and about to graduate from college with my bachelors degree. While I'm happy for school to be over, I am so worried that I'll never get a job. I HATE interviews. Especially those behavioral interviews b/c I feel like they are geared toward extroverts and I'm am nervous and quiet when I have an interview. I never know the right things to say to questions like "tell me about a time when you......" I can never think of an answer right away.

What can I do to be less nervous during interviews? I am so worried that I'll never get past an interview. If I was given the chance I'm sure I would do an excellent job. I've been with the same employer for 3 years, no problems with attendance and go above and beyond. I 'm just never given the chance to prove myself because I choke up during the interview. HELP!!!!

I am so worried about job interviews...can anyone help?
Part of your nervousness (I believe) is that in these questions, you think that you can give a wrong answer. This simply isn't true. These questions are about YOUR past, not theirs. When you go into an interview, let them know that you may seem nervous because - as a dedicated worker, you've not been on many interviews. That will help them guage your attitude as they ask questions. When you answer the questions, restate the question... such as...

Q: Tell me about a time when you have discovered a problem and minimized it's impact to the organization?

A: I recall one incident in a previous job where - while reviewing an order, came upon an error in billing...

Make it personal. This is what YOU have done, and part of their questioning is whether you recognize problems, whether you CAN led, whether you can be led...

Be thoughtful in your answers, there's not a time limit... Another good technique is - ask them to restate the question. What type of leadership, or problem? Perhaps they could give an example...

It IS scary, no doubt, but you have skills that they want to learn about - that's why you're in the interview to begin with.

best of luck
Reply:In the past, the thing that made me most nervous during interviews was if I felt like I "needed" the job. This put much more pressure on everything I said or did during the interviews. Because you're graduating college, you have to realize that there is a world of opportunities that exist out there. No only should you think about impressing them with your qualifications, but you should go in with the attitude that this company is trying to get you, a talented and qualified college graduate. It's all a matter of confidence when you walk in the door, and when you ask them probing questions about the company and what they do, it shows them that it's not an inquisition of you, it should also be somewhat of a sales pitch from them. This equalizes the balance of power in the room, and makes it so that both parties in the room are attempting to reach a goal--you to get a job, and the interviewer to get a great candidate like you on board.

On a more practical level, it helps to take deep breaths, avoid the coffee (gives people the jitters), and try and come up with small talk or questions from the beginning--this helps to make it seem less like an inquisition and more like a conversation. Often, I've done interviews and really been at a loss of what questions to ask next and it's nice when an interviewee takes the pressure off by asking questions. Even if you are nervous, you can deflect the pressure off of you to answer tough questions, by asking them questions and making them the focus.

Also, the night before you go to an interview, it helps to go through you resume and think back to your prior job experiences. Or if you have the time, to go on the internet and look up sample interview questions, and try and come up with answers to the questions. While it's impossible to predict what they will ask, it's a good exercise to help get the thought processes going about your experiences and future goals.

Good luck on your interview!

Reply:Go interview at every temp agency you can find. Don't tell the agencies that you are just practicing, just call and go talk to them. The repetitive act of interviewing over and over will give you some confidence that you desperately need.

Being a good interviewee, is not a "talent", it is a learned skill and you just need to learn it.

There are great books %26amp; websites that offer good solid suggestions for the answers to the dumb HR questions, read a couple and it will greatly help you.

You will be fine, take a deep breath and calm down. Congrats on graduation and happy holidays!
Reply:at the beginning you can pretend you're another person or that you're acting, maybe later you can be yourself
Reply:1st and foremost remember to just breathe.......... Nobody likes to be interviewed. Like somebody else said call temp agencies and practice. If you have a workforce center near you, go to that. There are people there that can help you. Also, ask your friends and family if they will help you by interviewing you.

And use the Internet and google search interviewing and interview questions. You will get some great answers from that.

Be yourself and remember, you are also interviewing the company while you are there.

Have a great holiday season and best of luck to you in the future.
Reply:First go to your school's job placement counselor. She/he may be able to help you. Next, see if you can find some good books on interviewing techniques (from the employer's side) to see what they might ask you. Third, get a friend to interview you. Have him or her ask the absolutely toughest questions you can put together from your reading.

Remember that a good interviewer will try to put you at ease. Also remember that many are just as nervous as you are. There are not many good interviewers out there.

Also you have an advantage over many graduates. You are older, and you have a solid, constant work history.
Reply:Go to the "internet" and type in "sample job interview questions" and you'll get questions and sample answers. If you are prepared, you'll be more relaxed.

How late can you be the following?

a. Class

b. Work

c. Job interview

d. A dinner party

e. A date with a friend

How late can you be the following?
How about this: Plan NOT to be late to ANY of them! Being late is extremely rude, and should be avoided if at all possible. It is disrespectful, because it sends the message that the other person's time is not as valuable as your own.

Especially A, B and C -- those are things you need to plan to be either on time for, or, for a job interview, at least 10 minutes EARLY. For class, I had several professors who would LOCK THE DOOR at 1 minute after the bell, because it was too distracting for latecomers to come in and interrupt the lesson. Work -- if you're late, then you are cheating your boss of the time he has agreed to pay you for, unless you conscientously make it up at lunch or at the end of the day. A dinner party -- it depends on the host. Most people throwing a dinner party don't appreciate having their presentation and hard work screwed up by people who wander in at all hours. A date with a friend -- well, hey, why would you make a friend wait?

Sometimes, being late is unavoidable -- the bus doesn't come, you get caught in traffic, whatever. But for the most part, being punctual is just good manners and being thoughtful of other people.
Reply:Never be late for anything. It is not only rude and disrespectful, but shows you do not care enough about who you are meeting. The military taught me to always be ten minutes early. To this day I feel bad if I am ever late for anything. If you are late to meet me, don't even think about asking for anything or expect me to be cordial.
Reply:a. Depends... at my high school, 5 minutes was too late. At my TAFE, you can be as late as you want, but it's a bit rude to be late more than 10-15 minutes.

b. 10 minutes

c. Never, be early

d. 10 minutes... they often prefer that you be on time and not early

e. 10 minutes... but don't be late the first few times around. Even if you are on time from then on, people always get stuck in their head that you have a reputation of being late, even if you're not.
Reply:A) Around 5 minutes, but on rare occasions.

B) Never!

C) Never!

D) 10 minutes with a good reason why.

E) 5 minutes - Not very often though.
Reply:a. never

b. never

c. never

d. 5-10 minutes

e. 5 minutes, but preferably never
Reply:A. on time or earlier. B. 5 minutes early or more. C. 10 minutes early or more. D. Up to 10 minutes late. E. On time or earlier. To sum it up, you can only be late for a dinner party. Anything else and you are in danger of: Bad grade, losing job, losing a friend.
Reply:a. be early

b. be early

c. NEVER EVER be late, not even a few minutes

d. be on time

e. be on time

It is never acceptable to be late. You may get by with it, but you will be pissing someone off and it will come back on you sooner or later. If you are late to a job interview, you have a 99.99% chance of NOT getting the job regardless of your qualifications. It's just rude to be late to a dinner or a date!
Reply:a. never, unless you have a valid excuse (doctor appointment, traffic snarls, etc.)

b. see the answer to a. above

c. NEVER EVER EVER if you expect to get a job...

d. never

e. never

Unless the reason your late can't be helped (traffic accident, inclement weather that forces people to slow down [heavy rain, icy roads, etc.]), you should always try to be on time for any event. Otherwise, you come across as rude, inconsiderate, and most of all, stuck on yourself (it's like saying your time is worth more than other people's time.) Why should they have to wait for YOU before the party/interview/movie/dinner date starts?
Reply:a. Up to 10 minutes but only rarely.

b. Likewise

c. Never

d. 5-10 mins.

e. Don't be :)

In any case always let someone know you'll be late!
Reply:The simple answer to all the above: Never.

You should try to be on-time or 10 minutes early to every one.

a. class: on-time (avoid embarrassment)

b. work: on-time or 5 minutes early (avoid embarrassment and write-ups)

c. Job Interview: ALWAYS 10-15 minutes EARLY. No excuses.

d. A dinner party: on-time

e. A date with a friend: on-time. I don't care if you're a female!
Reply:a. 5 mins - but not too often

b. 10 mins - but not too often

c. NEVER

d. 15 mins - but try not to be

e.5-10 mins
Reply:a. I don't like to be more than 5 minutes late for class.

b. You should try not to be late for work ever, but it depends on your job...

c. You should NEVER be late for a job interview.

d. 10-15 minutes...any later and you might miss out on all the foooood! haha.

e. Well I don't like to keep my friends waiting, but 10-15 minutes late wouldn't hurt anybody. Any later than 15 minutes and they might be annoyed, or just leave.
Reply:a. 5-10 minutes (early is better though, school is also about socializing with your friends)

b. 15-20 minutes

c. don't even think about it!

d. on time,

e. 10 minutes top
Reply:a. Class

In a 50 minute class, I would suggest no more than 10 minutes. Any more than that, and you risk getting a bad reputation from your teacher / professor

b. Work

5 minutes. If you are running late at all, call your boss or supervisor. The difference between arriving late and being on time could be a raise!

c. Job interview

DONT BE LATE. 15 minutes early is on time.

d. A dinner party

Anytime before dinner is actually served. If you arrive late, you cannot leave early, though.

e. A date with a friend

30 minutes.

This is the day and age of cell phones. If you are running late for any reason, call the person(s) you're meeting and let them know. Nobody likes to be kept waiting.
Reply:a. depends on the professor, usually late only once a semester.

b. 5 min late once a week

c. 10 min early or you look unprepared

d. 10 min late every time because really who cares it's meant as a leisure activity anyway

e. 15 min. you don't want to seem to into it the first time. or if it is just a friend 5-10 min late.
Reply:a. up to a half hour depending on how long the class is. if the class is only and hour, you should only be 15 minutes late- IF YOU MUST

b- dont go late, but if you must be less than 7 minutes

c- NEVER

d- 45 minutes late is ok

e- try and be on time but as long as you call before you have her waiting you are ok
Reply:Bieng on time is really important. It really gives an initial impression.

a. 5 minutes max. On the first day, be on time.

b. On time or 5 minutes early. 5 minutes late once in a while is probably not a huge deal depending where you work.

c. ALWAYS be 10-15 minutes early. Being late is a sure way to NOT get the job.

d. 10-15 minutes. If you are going to be later, call ahead and late them know.

e. 10-15 min. Again, call if you are going to late.

lots of people liked what he said and then changed their minds after watching what he did...what is surprising is why the nation reelected him to a second term--one of america's biggest mistakes--EVER. History will be the ultimate judge, but my money is on boy george being voted "worst ever" in presidential history.

What do I do after being robbed and losing a wallet containing social security number, driver's licence, and c

Someone has stolen my husbands wallet which contained his drivers licence, social security card (he was interviewing for a new job--save the 'shouldn't have done that' comments, please) credit cards, and family pictures. We have called all creditors to cancel cards, but social security won't do anything until he goes to the office during business hours. Can anyone offer advice as to what to do to reduce risk of identity theft? Thanks for reading.

What do I do after being robbed and losing a wallet containing social security number, driver's licence, and c
I think as long as you have reported everything stolen you are good for the most part. I might join a credit watchdog site... like true credit.com or something for as little as $5 a month and you can view and see if there has been any activity on your credit report and then dispute it immediately.

Looks like you have taken appropriate measures thus far. I would definitely get to the office ASAP even if that includes taking a lunch break to go to the office!
Reply:he needs to go to the ss office asap

his identity could be in jeopardy and the problems that can cause are too many to mention. he will also want to notify the drivers lic bur too. this needs to be done first thing tomorrow...even if he has to take off work and lose pay. do not wait!!!

I was convicted of a Class B felony in 1991. I am now looking for work in K.C. I have achieved an A.A. HELP!!!

I completed all sentencing guidelines in 1996 (with praise from the judge). Went to school, recieved an Assoc. Degree in 2005. Won several scholarships and awards. And, I am about 40 credits short of my B.A. I have applied for more than 100 jobs and have had only 2 interviews. If anyone has ANY advice please help. I have excellent references and a very nice resume. I am willing to work just about any shift and get along fabulously with co-workers. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's really unfair that you are having so much trouble. MANY people make a bad choice or two in life. You pay the price, change your life, and move forward. How can you do that when no one will give you a chance. This one reason why we have revolving doors in prisons...many know they can make more money in criminal activity. Anyway, a rant for another day.

I work in Medical Transcription. It's one of the FEW jobs that you can do legitimately at home and make good money w/o selling anything. Plus, there is no age, or any other type of discrimination. I've never even heard of a company doing a criminal background check. You would need vocational training to learn how to do it. It may not be in your degree area. However, it would be a good skill for you pick up and have in the interim, and if you find a job you like better in the future, you can go for it, but always have the MT to fall back on.

Best Wishes to you!
Reply:Move to get those records expunged and sealed. It shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars and could very well make the difference in your landing a job.

What are my chances of getting hired at another police department after not hired b/c of drinking/driving?

I recently applied and went through the processes of Written/Oral/Background/Polygraph tests with the LA County Sheriffs Dept. I passed all the tests, or I thought, and was only awaiting my date to take my psychological exam and medical exam before entering the academy. I was sent a letter claiming that I would not be hired based on: Driving under the influence. This was something that I had only admitted to doing ever in my life during one of the oral interviews, it was noted as a minor concern and never brought up again. I have never been convicted of a DUI or been pulled over/questioned or anything regaurding anything about one. Only that I had admitted to doing so.....I was wondering what my chances are of getting hired with another dept right now if I chose to start re-applying as I know they will have access to my LASD file.

What are my chances of getting hired at another police department after not hired b/c of drinking/driving?
Little chance because of the record but hope for the best.
Reply:Keep applying.

Most agencies are concerned primarily with felony convictions, not misdemeanors.

Here's where you screwed up. You disclosed your DUI during one of the oral interviews, right? So, that means you did not disclose it on your written application, right? Duh. The first thing ANY angency expects is complete honesty from the outset. Disclose EVERYTHING honestly and truthfully from the beginning of the application process. Many agencies will forgive isolated misdemeanors and drug use, but no agency will tolerate misinformation, lies, half-truths, or less-than-complete disclosures from its applicants or personnel.
Reply:I hate to said this. Forget about being a cop in any state.

Will Tennis ever get its R-E-S-P-E-C-T?

Why wont tennis ever get its respect, not just from media, but with televised coverage? Last week at The Pacific Life Open and this weeks tournament in Key Biscayne, ESPN, and especially the Tennis Channel arent showing live matches. In fact they arent showing any matches. Tennis Channel rather show "The Other Side With Leyton Hewitt" every 3 hours from 2005, and other interviews from the past, as well as taped matches from the seniors tour, and even racquetball, rather then live matches being played by todays athletes. What gives with that?

Will Tennis ever get its R-E-S-P-E-C-T?
Shoot tell me about it, the only time we ever even get decent coverage of tournaments is when the grandslams are on. I cannot stand that tennis channel, and I didn't even get to watch the Pacific Life Open until the second week, which annoyed me because it's a major tournament in America. Now with the Sony Ericsson Open, the so called "fifth grandslam" I didn't even get to see coverage till frekaing saturday. Today there's only 4 freaking hours on FSN, and then it comes back on at 1 am, which is when I'm sleeping. I used to be able to view the tennis channel but since I live in Houston, I had Time Warner Cable which let me view it free now since Comcast has taken over they took it and I have to buy a 50 dollars sports package if I want it. Now since they've inked deals with the Tennis Channel it's kinda sucks, but the tennis channel doesn't hardly show any tennis tournaments at all. There's only so many times I can stand to check my tv guide menu and see "The Other Side With Lleyton Hewitt". Something needs to be done, at least when the US Open comes around they show the small US Open Series tournaments, but why not show the other bunch of tournaments like Dubai, The Queen's Club and other stuff, it's ridiculous.
Reply:The Tennis Channel is really disappointing. You would think with a name like that, they would be covering every major tennis tournament. Key Biscayne is the 6th biggest tennis tournament on the ATP calendar. Very disappointing.
Reply:well, the only reason you're seeing crappy programming in place of coverage is because of broadcasting rights that FSN won. i suppose they proposed more money to garner themselves more viewership since they pretty much suck and needed a bit more depth as a network. it's shame indeed but unfortunately that's the way it goes in corporate telly.

as for your official question,i hope it does. if they get the coverage perhaps it will change but right now i don't feel the interest from networks and just people as viewers or spectators as a whole.
Reply:yeah.. tennis channel is pure S-H-I-T! and as for the other channels shame on them for not broadcasting live matches anymore. it really sucks that all I can do is watch the live scores on the internet change until someone wins! it would be better if I could actually see the players play the points specially when the top players are on court! grrr....
Reply:I agree with everyone. Tennis is overlooked by sports such as basketball, football, and baseball in the US. I really hope it gets more credibility. On the bright side, it is gaining more popularity.
Reply:i dont have the tennis channel but i dont want it. i agree with you
Reply:I hope it will, cause this is really annoying. I was hunting everywhere last week to watch the PLO, but it was extremely frustrating that no channel was showing it. People here would rather watch others ramming into wach other in football, and that's why tennis is understated.

I think tennis fans have to stand up for tennis more. It seems as if everyone is talking about more popular sports to everyone, but tennis fans don't really discuss tennis with ppl other than tennis fans. If we became a little less resevred, others would start noticing the sport and then channels would be forced to accomodate it...

Please help with new job at Wal-Mart d.c. on shipping and receiving?

Hi,

I'm really looking forward to my new job. I already passed two important interviews, but I still need to complete my orientation. I already took the pre-employment drug test, and awaiting results and should pass because I don't do drugs.

Anyway do you know what duties involes in receiving/shipping dept. Like a thorough explanation in FULL detail on what to do? Obviously I don't have any experience, so ALL help is appreciated. It's a good paying job and I really need to help support my family. thanks in advance.

Please help with new job at Wal-Mart d.c. on shipping and receiving?
basiclly taking an inventory of what comes in and what goes out, usually printed papers with items on there will have to be acounted for. also some loading and unloading of trucks
Reply:If you have gone through two interviews and a drug screen, they are most likely planning on hiring you and they probably know you have no experience, but feel you are intelligent, trustworthy, and are willing to train you. Every place has different types of shipping/receiving jobs so it would be hard to give you a full detail. Those jobs usually take place in the 'stock room', which can be without climate control based on the store. (No A/C and poor heat) You may unload trucks trailers (HOT in the summer %26amp; COLD in the winter), put store stock on the floor or holding areas, scan boxes with hand-held devices to direct them in the right area, You might have to learn how to operate a fork lift, (not too difficult), you may count things for the store inventory, you may box things up to send back to the manufacturer that may be defective, you might have to operate a computer with the stores software or if you have to ship things out, it might be UPS or FedEx Software, etc....etc....It might seem overwhelming, but with proper training, it's not bad. Good Luck!
Reply:oh,iam really sorry i don't know any one know about..sorry. can i be your f riend if i can please send to me message i will wait the reply?? bye.
