I need some advice.... Please help!!!...?

OK.. I have this job that I use to love, but hate more and more each day. The company is having a very hard time paying their bills and the owner doesn't seem to care. I work in customer service and it has gotten to the point where I can not even answer any customer's questions because I just don't know what to say. Here is the problem... I know we are going to go out of business any day now...so I need a new job. I already got 5 calls for job interviews, but I am not sure what to do. I am obliviously going to take a pay cut and I really need the $ right now to catch up on bills. I can not afford to walk out and quit (even though I would love to). I do not have any time for interviews because I work M-F 8-5. I was thinking about maybe working 2 part time jobs....I would really like to finish up school.


Should I walk out? This way I can go to interviews or stay b/c I can not afford it? I'm stressing out...any advice would be nice.

First, don't get overly stressed about this situation. I understand your predicament, and if you're relaxed about it, it may go smoother than anticipated.





Ok, you can request a phone interview, or one after hours. Maybe you could even meet on the weekend. You can also try asking for time off in the middle of the day (and maybe making it up later). Maybe you could attend your interview on your lunch break. Are you saying that these jobs you applied for are lower in pay than your current? That's not good. You should always try going higher in pay. I suggest applying to more companies so that you can throw your name out there, as well as getting a potential call back.





Also, ask yourself what you liked about your job before it went sour. Maybe you should seek a job doing that (since it went so well). I wouldn't recommend quitting since you need the money, even if it does free you up for interviews. Two part time jobs are good. I work two jobs now (and one I handle from home most of the time). It works out well for me. I'm not taking classes at the moment, so I work as much as I can.





If you're interested in classes, try getting a job at the school that pays reasonably well. Perhaps you could also think about teaching a course (and getting classes at the college for free maybe). Just a thought.

Reply:You MUST like the job you work, it's such a big part of your life and therefore will affect so much else. You didn't state how long you've been there, just curious. If you are truly sure the company is going out of business, then personally I think you should just not go back tomorrow. Be as discreet as you can, like taking any personal things from your desk/office. You have to think about your future, and I believe that if you're honest at your interviews and explain why you didn't give notice and how you haven't been paid, a future employer/boss should see the reasoning and understand - so long as you don't have a list of experiences like this and have some good references. Whether or not you work FT or PT and go back to school, that is another bridge to cross. One at a time, o.k.? Good luck!!! :)
Reply:You can't afford not to leave and go on job interviews because, once the place closes down, you won't be getting an income from anywhere. Work part-time if you want to go back to school, but if not school then it just makes more sense, and is less stressful, to work one full-time job.
Reply:i am sorry u r stress but i know how u feel. alot going on with me rite now as well. but u dont need to hear my prob. i hate to say this but it is not good to leave one job unless you have another job. but i see your point. do you have anything you can sell like can you have a yard sale. make alittle cash so you could quit? i hate to say i am not sure what u should do, so i am not much help to you. say a BIG prayer and it all will work out and you will look back on this and smile.

Reply:Call in sick to go for an interview. Or use the dentist appointment excuse. If your the only one there that might make it hard. But never tell your boss you are interviewing. They will make it harder for you. Hope everything works out.
Reply:ok, you need the money, but don't want to leave. well, my advice is to take the pay cut and go to school. your bills may take longer to get paid off, but you will be better off in the long run. if you are not happy at work, it will affect the rest of your day or life. bad moods are contagious. it takes alot of courage to pass on a happy mood. good luck.

Reply:Every job has it ups %26amp; down's because the way this econmy is going (SLOW/DOWN) what ever the gov. say's about it. But if u were to go anywhere else you probably would have to work harder at your new job just for a few dollars more, hate to say this but just stick it out alittle while longer, if the Co. goes down then it happens BUT stil keep in touch with the other companies that you applied to also have there email adds, so u can email them or keep calling them once or twice a week to see if the postion is stil open. Another thing Do Not Quite bcuz other emplyor would see that and ask the (?) ( Why Did You Leave?) To tell you the truth im on the same boat as u.

Reply:Well if you have 5 interviews your best option would be to find time to go to them. If you can get some time off great, if not you may need to just walk out. If you are that sure your business is going under then you will either have to do it now or do it forcefully and the 5 interviews may not be there with others looking for work. Unfortunately, you have to take a risk to get ahead these days. I am sorry things are not good this week but tomorrow is another day. Things always get better.
Reply:I would wait and get your unemployment benefits when the business goes out - then that way you are getting paid while going to school! Or finding another job, anyway. If you leave now you don't get the unemployment---just my thought.

Reply:First of all, I feel bad for you. A word of sound advice is that no decision is easy. You really have to let go of your current position to seek other opportunities. You see the signs, react! There is a book entitled "Who stole my cheese." It is a short read and will really shed some light on your situation. Transitions are not always easy ones. A lesson can be learned from this experience though. Preparation is essential.
Reply:Sorry you are going through that. I was in a similar situation - we have staffing agencies where we are and it is almost impossible in this town to get a job without going through one anymore. I would get calls for temporary jobs and they'd look for something permanent (already behind in bills) and so I had to take the temp jobs knowing the agency wasn't going to pull me from it to get a perm. job. I ended up turning down temp. jobs and spent the rest of the time on resumes, on-line job hunting and driving to different locations. I got a job by dropping my resume off. If I had taken a position they asked me to take, I probably wouldn't have made it here. It sucks because the decision is a gamble either way. We had to get help with bills and it was horrible. I know what you are going through. I think, if it was me, I would get my resumes ready for tomorrow, take them with you, and walk out tomorrow - drop them off all over the place. If you found that job that pays well I am sure that you can find another one I mean for sure.you say this place will go out of business. Take your time and see your options and make some time to attend those meetings.You have to and a girl as beautiful as you should not have those problems.
Reply:I'd say you've basically got three options besides just quiting. ! would be to schedule interviews during your lunch period. Even if you have to stagger your lunch time. 2 would be to talk to your boss about the fact that the company is going under and you've got to find a job. see if he'll let you take the time off to go to interviews. 3 would be to go to the interviews and take your chances. Even if you got fired, who wouldn't understand and you could probably still get unemployment.
Reply:Just take the time off yuo need for interviews. Make them long lunch breaks. Sure, you take a short term loss of income, but if you get hired from one of the interviews, you'll make it up and not have the time of no job and job hunting.

Why should you waste your time and not go to the interviews when there could be a decent lasting job that will help you catch up later. you are already catching up, why wait any longer. Reply:Well if you know the company's going out of business soon, then you're going to be out of a job soon enough anyway. You need to be looking for a replacement job asap. Please don't tell me you passed up five opportunities for other jobs. Call them back right away and set up appointments. If you need the hours and money right now, then try to set up all your interview appointments on the same day, so you only have to take one day off. What you really can't afford is to lose your current job and not have another one lined up. I can tell you right now that holding down two part time jobs is a lot harder than working 8-5 and having weekends off, and most 8-5 type jobs have more benefits (insurance, vacation, etc) than part time jobs.

Reply:Why not stay where you are right now until the place closes down - work part time in the mean time at night and weekends if you are able to and put that money aside for harder times when the business does shut down, then use that money you saved to make up the difference until you find another suitable job with a suitable income....
Reply:why stay if you're certain the business is going bust? taking time off might be the answer to responding to interviews. Take up at least 1 permanent post and consider another part time only if your study schedule allows(I'm assuming you study part time?)
Reply:If one of the part itme jobs is working for a college, you can get the school for free. I know where I go to school it $11 plus free tuition for you and family.
Reply:Really sorry to hear that you are having a bad week... if you already have offers for 5 interviews, you are definitely going to be able to find another job quickly. I would suggest calling your creditors and telling them that you are changing jobs and need to skip a payment or two. If you tell them, they are usually good about working with you. Reply:I would stay with the job right now. But I would probably call out sick one day and go to an interview for another job. Because if you need the money you can't leave or you'll be poor. But it can't hurt to call out sick and go for a job interview.

Help! I'm feeling pretty hopeless after job searching for 6 months in a very competitive large city, Minneapolis. I was laid off at the end of July, and I have only had three interviews that did not work out. I was at my former job for 6 years and have already realized that I will have to take a significant "pay cut" from what I used to make just to get my foot in the door somewhere else. I'm pretty nervous about interviewing in general b/c of my lack of experience (with interviewing). I think a staffing agency is the way to go, since they act like your advocate in getting you a job.





Please give me your positive experiences of working with a staffing agency! Can you suggest some good ones?

Reply:a staffing agency is not always a permanent thing. Remember that you may not be working all the time so it's best to sign up with a few. Don't think they act like your advocate in getting a job; they will make a company "buy you off" if they want to hire you permanently.





The upside is that you can make new contacts and learn new skills. Good luck.
